School Roofing Material Shows Up In Vernon — Months Late | Vernon, CT Patch

VERNON, CT — Roofing material for Center Road School in Vernon arrived in town Thursday — a few months late.

Vernon Superintendent of Schools Joseph Macary said the project fell victim to the supply chain woes plaguing the nation.

"We ordered the material in November and wanted it it to shop up four months ago so it could be installed during the summer," Macary said. "It just showed up now."

Macary said the school system is "obviously not giving it back," and will store the material at Vernon Center Middle School — where it was plopped down — until the spring. He said the material will survive the wait because, after all, it is designed to be outside. Cameras are on the material for security reasons, he said.

The roofing material is taking up an entire row of the VCMS upper overflow parking lot. The work is suspended for now and will resume when students have been dismissed. There is not enough room to store the material at Center Road School itself, he said.

The CRS roof represents the biggest current capital school project. It is the largest of the town's five elementary schools.

The cost of the project is about $1.2 million and 68 percent of that is designated for state reimbursement, Macary said. The town's capital non-recurring account is fronting the cost, Macary said.
